Wind Power India conference next April
Press Trust of India / Chennai Jul 05, 2010, 15:23 IST

The Pune-based World Institute of Sustainable Energy (WISE), in collaboration with the Global Wind Energy Council and the Indian Wind Turbines Manufacturers Association, will organise a three-day Wind Power India conference here next April, organisers said today.

The conference, scheduled from April 7-9, 2011, will witness about 200 exhibitors showcasing their products, besides a plethora of events, including a CEOs Forum, said Rajendra Kharul, the Organising Secretary of the conference.

Panel discussions will be held to make recommendations to the government on wind energy potential, he said.

WISE Founder Director General G M Pillai said that with about 15-20 players engaged in wind turbine manufacture, India could soon become a hub for export of the machinery.

He said the government has set a target for generating 47,000 MW of power from renewable sources of energy by 2015.

GWEC Secretary General Steve Sawyer said India and the US were two of the 'seriously underdeveloped markets' for wind energy and stressed on the need for a national strategy to tap this form of energy in the country.

The Wind Power India 2011 exhibition will demonstrate state-of-the-art technologies, research and development and major innovations in the field of wind energy, a release said.
