| State gets Rs 1,908 cr funds under NREGS |

The Centre has released Rs 1,908 crore to Karnataka under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) for the present financial year. In addition to this, the state government has released Rs 203.7 crore.
In his written reply to the state legislative assembly on Wednesday, Jagadish Shettar, minister for rural development and panchayat raj, government of Karnataka said the state government has extended facilities to all 5,628 gram panchayats in the state under the scheme.
Under the scheme, the state government has issued 5.8 million job cards and generated 150 million persondays of work. Till now, Rs 2,042 crore has been spent for various works, he said.
Some of the works for which the MGNREGS funds were deployed include afforestation, micro and small irrigation works, rain water harvesting, desilting of tanks, rural roads among others. All the zilla panchayats in the state have effectively implemented the scheme during the year, he added.
