| South City eyes 25-30% growth |

South City mall, the largest mall of Kolkata commanding over 1 million sq ft, expects around 25-30 per cent growth in sales during 2010, riding on new brands as well as overall improvement in consumer sentiment.Manmohan Bagree, VP - marketing for South City Projects, said, “South City will see many new brands setting up shop. These include ‘Bossini’, TieRack’, among others.”
‘Hush Puppies’ will set up its first standalone outlet in East India at South City mall this year. Also, ‘Divine Shop’, a new concept store on the ‘Art of Living’ will also open shop in South City this year.
The new stores would, on an average, take up 1,000 sq ft each. Food and beverages (F&B) will see new brands like Coffee World, Cream and Fudge, among others. Specialized Indian cuisine restaurant ‘Sarson’ will also open shop in South City this year.
According to Bagree, food and entertainment currently contributes around 30 - 35 per cent to the total revenue generated inside the mall. On an average, around 40,000 people visits the mall per week for F&B. South City mall currently has approximately 75,000 sq ft for F&B including all specialty restaurants and food counters. As of now, the mall is best known as the food hub of South Kolkata with four specialty restaurants –Benjarong, Zara, Mainalnd China, Flame & Grill.
When the mall opened in 2008, it registered footfalls of around 2.6 lakh people. However, on December 25, 2009, the mall saw 2.5 lakh footfalls, while on December 31 it saw 1.4 lakh footfalls.
