| Sony India to lower prices of cameras |

Sony India, which is eying 45 per cent market share in the compact market segment by 2010-11, is targeting 3,000 retail business partners for compact cameras across India by 2010-end. At present, Sony India has 2,800 retail business partners for cameras.
With the company deciding to expand operations that would encompass non-metro cities as well, it also plans to lower the prices of compact cameras at the entry-level stage.
Product Head, Digital Imaging, Sony India Takahiro Hirata said increase in business partners would come along with expansion in non metros cities, and Sony was lowering its entry level price to Rs 6,990 from Rs 7,999 at present. The lower affordable range for compact cameras would help the company strengthen its position in the non-metros cities.
Hirata, who was here to announce the launch of new series of cyber shot cameras from Sony said the company planned to increase the unit sales of compact cameras to 800,000 units up from 550,000 units, to achieve a market share of 45 per cent. The compact camera segment in India is pegged at 1.3 million units and is expected to grow to 1.8 million units by financial year 2010-11.
