Sensex up 253pts; DLF, Jaiprakash slip

The Sensex is now up 253 points at 8,704. Earlier, the index after a flat start had rallied smartly to a high of 8,821.

Sterlite has soared 6% to Rs 213. TCS and HDFC have zoomed over 5.5% each to Rs 496 and Rs 1,362, respectively.

SBI and BHEL have surged 4.4% each to Rs 1,140 and Rs 1,246, respectively.

Bharti Airtel and Reliance Infrastructure have rallied over 4% each to Rs 617 and Rs 443, respectively.

NTPC and Infosys have gained 3.3% each at Rs 143 and Rs 1,164, respectively.

Wipro and Hindalco have advanced 3% each to Rs 227 and Rs 52, respectively.

DLF has slumped nearly 6% to Rs 193. Jaiprakash Associates has tumbled nearly 4% to Rs 57.

Tata Steel and Hindustan Unilever have slipped around 1.5% each to Rs 156 and Rs 231, respectively.

Ranbaxy is down over 1% at Rs 216.

The market breadth is negative - out of 2,380 stocks traded, 1,290 have declined, 996 have advanced and 94 are unchanged.
