Sensex pares some gains, up 281pts; breadth turns -ve

The Sensex has pared some gains and is now up 281 points at 8,732. Earlier, the index after a flat start had rallied smartly to a high of 8,821.

Hindalco has soared over 6% to Rs 53. TCS has surged 5.5% to Rs 495.

HDFC and Sterlite have surged 5% each to Rs 1,354 and Rs 210, respectively.

Bharti Airtel and Reliance Communications have rallied over 4% each to Rs 617 and Rs 190, respectively.

Reliance Infrastructure, BHEL and SBI have moved up 4% each to Rs 443, Rs 1,242 and Rs 1,136, respectively.

Wipro and Larsen & Toubro have gained nearly 4% each at Rs 228 and Rs 739, respectively.

NTPC, Reliance and Infosys have advanced 3.3% each to Rs 143, Rs 1,094 and Rs 1,164, respectively.

Grasim, ONGC and Tata Motors are up around 3% each at Rs 924, Rs 670 and Rs 130, respectively.

DLF has plunged over 5% to Rs 195. Jaiprakash Associates has dropped over 3% to Rs 58.

Ranbaxy has slipped 2% to Rs 214, and Hindustan Unilever has shed 1.7% at Rs 230.

The market breadth has turned marginally negative - out of 2,267 stocks traded, 1,115 have declined, 1,065 have advanced and 87 are unchanged.
