Sensex pares gains, up 56points; ONGC gains 4%

The Sensex opened almost flat at 8,447 - down four points. The index soon rallied to a high of 8,614, and has since pared gains and is up 56 points at 8,507.

Hindalco has surged 4.4% to Rs 52. ONGC has soared 3.8% to Rs 675.

TCS, Reliance Communications and Mahindra & Mahindra have rallied nearly 3% each to Rs 483, Rs 187 and Rs 310, respectively.

Reliance Infrastructure, Bharti Airtel and SBI have gained 2.5% each at Rs 436, Rs 607 and Rs 1,119, respectively.

Tata Power, Larsen & Toubro, Tata Motors and Sterlite have moved up 2.3% each to Rs 649, Rs 729, Rs 129 and Rs 205, respectively.

DLF, Jaiprakash Associates and BHEL are up over 2% each at Rs 210, Rs 61 and Rs 1,220, respectively.

ICICI Bank has shed 2.6% at Rs 312, and HDFC Bank has slipped over 1% to Rs 813.
