Sensex nearly flat, up 26pts; TCS gains 5%

The Sensex has pared most of its gains and is now up 26 points at 8,477.
Earlier in the day, the index after a flat start had rallied smartly to a high of 8,821.

TCS has soared 4.8% to Rs 492, and HDFC has surged 4.4% to Rs 1,346.

BHEL and Sterlite have rallied 3.6% each to Rs 1,238 and Rs 208, respectively.

Reliance Infrastructure, SBI and Bharti Airtel have rallied 3.3% each to Rs 440, Rs 1,129 and Rs 611, respectively.

Satyam has gained 3% at Rs 241. Tata Motors, Wipro, Infosys and ONGC have advanced 2.6% each to Rs 130, Rs 225, Rs 1,157 and Rs 667, respectively.

NTPC and Reliance Communications have added 2% each to Rs 141 and Rs 186, respectively.

Reliance, Larsen & Toubroi and Grasim are up around 1.5% to Rs 1,075, Rs 723 and Rs 909, respectively.

DLF has slumped nearly 10% to Rs 185. Jaiprakash Associates has shed 6% at Rs 56.

ACC and Tata Power have dropped 2.7% each to Rs 397 and Rs 617, respectively. Ranbaxy has slipped 2.3% to Rs 213.

Tata Steel and Mahindra & Mahindra have declined 2% each to Rs 155 and Rs 296, respectively.

ICICI Bank and Hindustan Unilever are down around 1.5% each at Rs 315 and Rs 231, respectively.
 
Out of 2,431 stocks traded, 1,461 have declined, 887 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
