Sensex in green in early trades

The markets have opened on a quiet note this morning, mirroring cues from Asian indices.

The Sensex, after opening at 17,176, touched a high of 17,225. It is now up 39 points at 17,207.

The Nifty is up 15 points at 5,149.

The BSE realty and auto indices have gained marginally in early trades.

 

Asian markets have opened weak this morning. The Hang Seng has slipped17 points to 21,212. The Nikkei has added 44 points to 10,708.

However, the US markets ended in the green on Thursday. The Dow closed stronger by 44 points and Nasdaq ended higher by nine points.

Mahindra & Mahindra has jumped 1.8% to Rs 1,145. Bharti Airtel and Hindalco have gained nearly 1% each at Rs 297 and Rs 161, respectively.

ICICI Bank, Tata Power, Reliance Communications and TCS are also in green.

However, weakness can be seen in Hindustan Unlever. The stock is now down 1.2% at Rs 226.
