The Sensex is now up 22 points at 17,190. Earlier in the day, the index had touched a high of  17,255.

The Nifty is up nine points at 5,142.

The BSE oil & gas index has sudenly gained over 1% to 9,886. The auto, realty and healthcare indices are also up marginally.

Mahindra & Mahindra has gained 1.8% at Rs 1,145. Tata Power has added 1.7% to Rs 1,352.

Metal stocks are up. Hindalco has jumped 1.6% at Rs 163. Sterlite is up 1.3% at Rs 832. Reliance has advanced 1.4% to Rs 1,031.

Bharti Airtel, Maruti Suzuki and Sun Pharma have moved up aroud 1% each.

Hindustan Unilever has slipped 1.3% to Rs 226. HDFC Bank and Infosys have declined nearly 1% each.

The BSE market breadth is positive. Out of 2,303 stocks traded, 1,354 have advanced while 865 have declined.
