Kernex Microsystems India Limited, a Hyderabad-based company engaged in the manufacture of anti-collision devices (ACDs) and development of signalling systems, has bagged a $17.5-million (approximately Rs 86 crore) order from the Egyptian National Railways for supply and development of 136 semi-automatic level crossings.
“We are negotiating additional provisions of 174 gates, which will take the total contract value to $40 million (Rs 196 crore),” LV Raju, managing director of Kernex Microsystems, told mediapersons here on Thursday.
Raju said the company had recently developed a new product – Portable Workman ACD – which can be manpacked so that the gangmen can warn trains during repairs and maintenance and in dangerous contingencies. It will show the product to the Union railway ministry for approvals.
The Indian Railways has decided to implement the ACD networking system to cover the entire 63,221 route kilometre railway tracks in the country in the next six to seven years, which require about 70,000 ACDs valued at Rs 5,000 crore. Kernex has already completed a pilot project on 730 kilometres for the Konkan Railways and 1,750 kilometres for North Western Railway.
“The Indian Railways had released work orders for the South Central Railway and South Western Railway amounting to Rs 360 crore. We are in the process of submitting the estimates and a final approval from the latter is expected by December end,” he said.
Kernex is setting up its second manufacturing facility at Shamshabad here at an investment of Rs 40 crore, which will take its total capacity to 25,000 ACDs a year. It reported a turnover of Rs 25 crore last year and expects to close the current fiscal with Rs 75 crore.
