Evaluating options for overseas collaborations: Fortis
Press Trust of India / New Delhi Sep 02, 2010, 14:45 IST

Fortis Healthcare today said it is evaluating options for collaborations in operating and managing hospitals in overseas markets, including Africa and the Middle East as it looks to expand international presence.

The company, which made an exit from Singapore-based hospital chain Parkway in July by selling its entire 25.37 per cent stake to Malaysia's Khazanah for an estimated about Rs 3,800 crore, said it has been receiving offers from parties even from the South East Asian region.

"With the Fortis brand gaining traction, there is lot of interest in for collaboration with us. We are getting inquiries from all over South East Asia, Africa and the Middle East in the operations and management space (of hospitals)," Fortis Healthcare Chief Executive Officer Bhavdeep Singh said.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a CII event here, Singh said the healthcare chain is continuously exploring growth opportunities in both domestic and international markets.

On the company's domestic expansion, he said two hospitals -- one in Kolkata and another in the Capital -- will open in the next four to six weeks, while another one at Gurgaon would be functional by the end of the calendar year.

"We will be adding roughly around 1,500-1,800 beds by the end of the year," Singh said. Currently, Fortis has a network with an 8,000 bed capacity across 48 hospitals, including 10 hospitals in pipeline.
