Discovery Networks’ Asia-Pacific (DNAP) today launched Discovery HD, the country’s first channel on a high-definition technology platform that offers sharper pictures and rich colours.
The channel, to be broadcast in English, will initially be available on Sun Direct. Rahul Johri, senior vice-president and general manager of DNAP, said, “Sun Direct is currently the only operator which offers high definition services. The channel will be introduced on other cable and DTH platforms as operators launch their HD service.”
Discovery HD will feature high quality content from Discovery Networks’ most popular channels. The current shows would include programmes on wildlife, nature, travel and lifestyle.
The new HD programming will be offered in 1080i, along with 5.1 surround sound. High-definition television (HDTV) refers to videos with higher resolution than traditional televisions, resulting in sharper pictures and richer colours.
