The Group of Ministers (GoM) overseeing the preparations for the Commonwealth Games (CWG) today said the August 31 deadline for completing pending works at Games venues would get delayed by a couple of days.
“We will not be able to meet the August 31 deadline but things will only get delayed by a couple of days because of the wet weather conditions we faced in Delhi in the past week,” said Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy, who heads the ministerial group.
The GoM, formed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, met here today and discussed various aspects leading to the deficiencies at the venues.
The GoM will next meet on August 30 to evaluate developments related to the event, to be held between October 3 and 14.
Meanwhile, Indian Olympic Association President Suresh Kalmadi said the Organising Committee (OC) had released the Rs 1.75 crore fine imposed on the Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) by the International Weightlifting Federation.
