Court directs NIMS to file another report on Raju's health
BS Reporter / Chennai/ Hyderabad Mar 06, 2010, 00:16 IST

A city court on Friday asked for a further report on Satyam founder B Ramalinga Raju’s health from Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), where he is being treated for Hepatitis C.

The court wanted to know whether Raju, the prime accused in Satyam case, was fit to be produced in the court under medical care.

Additional chief metropolitan magistrate and special judge BVLN Chakravarti today observed that the medical report does not say how long Raju would be treated as an in-patient or if he was in a position to be produced in the court.

The special court trying the Satyam scam had last week ordered the NIMS director to file a detailed report on the health status of Raju after he did not appear before the court citing his treatment.

Following the court directions, NIMS professor and head of gastroenterology department Dr Ajit Kumar had filed the report.

“The anti-viral treatment has to be continued by all possible ways feasible... else we may lose the opportunity to treat Hepatitis C, which may end up in life threatening liver failure or liver cancer in future,” the report said adding it was advisable to manage the patient (Raju) under supervision as in-patient as he carried a high risk for morbidity.

Raju developed severe ‘Neutropenia’ and ‘Thrombocytopenia’ after receiving the fifth and sixth dose of injections as part of the treatment of Hepatic ailment, which may cause life threatening spontaneous bleeding and severe infection and sepsis, the doctor said in the report.

The risk was further compounded by Raju’s history of heart disease and hypothyroidism, the doctor said.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) today filed a petition before the special court trying the Satyam scam case to allow it to record the statements of Satyam’s senior vice-president and global head of internal audit cell VS Prabhakar Gupta, then finance vice-president G Ramakrishna, fincance senior manager D Venkatapathi Raju and assistant manager Ch Srisailam — accused in the Satyam case.

They are now lodged at Chanchalguda Jail. The matter has been posted to March 11.

Referring to miscellaneous petitions filed by some of the accused seeking defreezing of their accounts, the judge issued a notice to the CBI to reply, to which it said it would file it by March 11.

Meanwhile, the counsel of Mahindra Satyam filed a petition seeking release of the record rooms at the Satyam Technology Centre (STC) and ‘My Home Hub’ from the CBI. The matter will come up before the court on March 11 after the CBI counsel said it would file its objections, if any, on that day.
