Airlines approach RIL to handle ATF services on their behalf

Reliance Industries (RIL) today said that after a ministerial panel on Tuesday allowed private airlines to import jet fuel directly, it has been approached by airlines to provide them services for handling jet fuel on their behalf at the airports.
The discussions are in the preliminary stage and modalities are yet to be finalised, the company said.
Airlines may not be aware that, if the imports are handled on their behalf by any third party (other than transporters), the likelihood of a tax-demand by the states cannot be ruled out. Therefore, as a matter of abundant caution, they may seek independent expert opinion before entering into the contracts.
