Adani Power enters MP with 1320 Mw power project

Adani Power limited (APL), which is already developing various power plants totalling 11,880 Mw, has now made its entry in Madhya Pradesh.

The MP government has been awarded a letter of intent (LoI) to the Ahmedabad-based company for the developing 1320 Mw power project at Chhindwara in the neighbouring state.This is a unique project as the project comes with land and other infrastructure facilities and requisite support from the state government. Currently APL along its subsidiaries is developing a number of power projects to the tune of 11880 Mw including 4620 Mw and 2640 Mw at Mundra and Dahej respectively in Gujarat, 3300 Mw at Tirodain Maharashtra and 1320 Mw at Kawai in Rajasthan.

“With the addition of this project, total generation capacity would cross 13000 MW, which is in line with our shared vision to put up 20000 MW by 2020,” said Gautam Adani, chairman, Adani Group. As per the LoI, 300 hectares of land, presently in possession of Madhya Pradesh State Electricity Board (MPSEB), along with the infrastructure facilities, will be transferred to APL.

First unit of 660 Mw will be commissioned within a period of 42 months from the date of LoI, according to a media statement by Adani Power.Besides, Energy Department, MP government will support and make recommendations to the government of India (GoI) for obtaining coal linkage/captive coal block for the project. All the required necessary statutory clearances for development of the project will be the responsibility of APL.

However, MP government will give recommendations to the concerned department for obtaining all the clearances.The government of MP has reserved water required for this project from Pench river. A total 10 per cent of the net energy generated from the project will be supplied by APL to the state government at variable cost to be determined by appropriate commission. MP government has the first right to purchase power up to 40 per cent of aggregate capacity of the project for a period of 20 years at such tariff as may be determined by appropriate commission. Balance 50 per cent power can besold through long/medium term arrangement.
