About 65 to 68 per cent of electorate exercised their franchise in the second and final phase of Assembly elections in Chhattisgarh today.
“This is the rough figure collected by the Election Commission and the exact percentage of voting will be known once all the polling parties return to the headquarters,” the state’s chief electoral officer, Alok Shukla, said this evening.
No untoward incident had been reported from any part, he added.
Meanwhile, people in five villages — Kamta, Khirwar, Bhanetara (in Janjgir district), and Shahpur and Nawapali (both in Raigarh) — refrained from voting. “The reason for boycotting is not known,” Shukla added.
About 450 companies of security personnel were deployed to ensure free-and-fair polling in the second phase.
