3 idiots to premiere on Sony
Swarup Chakraborty / Mumbai May 22, 2010, 01:04 IST

Multi Screen Media (MSM), which runs Sony Entertainment and Set MAX, has acquired the exclusive satellite TV telecast rights for the movie, 3idiots. MSM’s Chief Operating Officer N P Singh confirmed the acquisition, but wouldn’t speak on the price. Other general entertainment channels like Colors and STAR Plus had also been in the race for procuring these.

Directed by Raj Kumar Hirani, 3idiots has proved to be the biggest blockbuster in the history of Indian films. It has done a business of Rs 400 crore worldwide.

According to sources, Sony paid Rs 21 crore for the TV rights of the film for a period of five years. The price that MSM has paid for the rights is almost half of the production cost of the film, made on a budget of Rs 45 crore, according to industry estimates.
